Angelika Niescier is one of those extraordinary women who have been giving new contours to the European jazz scene for some time. She is not only a determined artist with irrepressible energy, rich palette and virtuoso technique, but also composes for film, theater, big band, ballet and symphony orchestra.
Niescier has received numerous scholarships and awards, including North Rhine-Westphalia’s “Prize for Young Artists”, was the first “Improviser in Residence” in the prestigious jazz city of Moers and now the German Jazz Prize / Albert Mangelsdorff Prize.Several of her CD productions have been awarded, including twice the quarterly prize of the German Record Critics (“sublim III” and “NYC FIVE”), jazzthing CD of the year (for “Quite Simply”) and the Echo Jazz (“sublim III”)
Niescier plays with jazz greats like Joachim Kühn, Steve Swallow, Jim Black, Simon Nabatov, Gerald Cleaver, Julia Hülsmann, Nasheet Waits, Ralph Alessi, Tyshawn Sorey, Achim Kaufmann and Gerry Hemingway.
She has performed with her own projects on the most important stages and festivals in Europe and has toured in Central Asia (eg commissioned by the Goethe Institute), Italy, Greece, Croatia, Egypt, Mexico, USA, Switzerland, Canada, South Korea, Bahrain, Gaza, West Bank, Iraq, Lebanon, Haiti, Dominican Republics, Russia, Turkey.
