KLUK is a Collaborative band initiated by The versatile UK drummer James Bashford to play with an array of prolific Jazz Players in KL Jazz scene.
This time, the band will consist of Chee Seng on Guitar, Eddy Lim on Sax, Wan Azfarezal on Bass and James Bashford on Drums
British Drummer and Composer Jim Bashford started playing drums at an early age and was influenced by the rock/progressive rock and jazz scene worldwide, he was mainly self taught for the first 6 years then he studied drums under the wonderful drummer and educator Steve Palmer.
After 14 years of playing as a sideman in bands covering all genres and also working in construction full time whilst studying on a popular music course, Jim then moved on to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and attended the BMus (Hons.) jazz course where he continued studies under drum tutors such as the great Tony Levin, Gene Calderazzo, Jeff Williams and Malcolm Garrett.
As a sideman, Jim has performed and/or recorded with Jean Toussaint (Hull Jazz Festival) Soweto Kinch (Juan Le Pins Festival) Rachael Cohen Quartet (Cheltenham and London Jazz Festival and recording released on Whirlwind records) WAVE Roz Harding and Mike Outram (London Jazz Festival The Vortex) Andrew Mc Cormack @ The Hive. Mike Williams, Hans Koller, Fred T Baker, Mark Hodgson, Percy Purseglove, Arnie Somogyi, Julian Siegel, Phil Robson, Martin Speake, John OGallagher, Liam Noble, Drew Gress, Dave Sinclair (Caravan) Paul Dunmall, Katie Melua to name but a few.
Chee Seng is a guitarist who has been playing around in town since 2015. Has previously led a few jazz groups as a bandleader playing actively in town, Unity Jazz Project, KL Jazz Trio, Delta Jazz Autonomy. Participated in a number of Jazz Festivals, to name a few, Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival, Publika Jazz Festival, World Youth Jazz Festival JB Arts festival, etc.
Wan Azfarezal, a Malaysian born Bass player has been actively performed since 1996. As a session player, he has performed in various festival and Jazz Clubs like, Island Jazz Festival, Mont Kiara Jazz Festival, Worth Youth Jazz Festival, Publika Jazz Festival, No Black Tie, Alexis etc. Wan has also worked with many Musicians and artists such as, Greg Lyons, Sean Ghazi, Micheal Pinegui, Pablo Calzado, Alberto Marin, Farid Ali, Fairuz Hussein, to name but a few.
Eddy Lim is a Malaysian born Saxophonist, Composer and Educator. He started learning saxophone in a high school marching band in his hometown, Kuala Terengganu. After finishing his high school, He went to Kuala Lumpur to pursue his dream in UCSI University, where he completed his Bmus (Hons) Contemporary Music. During his time in the university, He studied saxophone under Julian Chan, Arif Yusof and Adil Johan. He recently completed his Masters In Jazz Performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied with the Jazz greats like Jean Toussaint, Mike Williams and Percy Pursglove.
As a performer, Eddy has performed in various events and festivals locally and also internationally, such as Legend Festival 2015 in UK, Resort World Sentosa Member Appreciation Dinner in Singapore with WVC and The Shanghai Sisters, Symphony Ariani Lebaran 2017 (backing Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza, Anuar Zain, Misha Omar, Jaclyn Victor and Aida Jebat), KL international Jazz Festival 2013, 30th Anniversary Western Australia Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. dinner in Perth, Australia, to name a few. Apart from that, he regularly performs for TV shows. Two highlights include the 2017 Astro Chinese Golden Melody Grand Finale and 2017 The Voice (Singapore and Malaysia region) Grand Finale. He was a member of KL Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Now, Eddy is playing with BAPA (British Academy of Performing Arts) Big band, led by Paul M. Baker and also DPAC Big Band, Led by Julian Chan and Tay Cher Siang. Apart from big ensemble, he is a member of JSY (JiuShiYi) a local jazz band. Eddy has also worked with a diverse range of musicians and artists such as Harry Bolt, Jakub Valíček, Mateo Lorenzo, Sean Gibb, and Tay Cher Siang.
Aside from his performing career, Eddy also actively teaches and currently teaches in UITM Malaysia and Sri KL
