Anna Chong 莊啟馨 is a Seremban-born singer-songwriter and composer who fearlessly explores possibilities and the unconventional, peppering her Chinese and English compositions with gibberish, self-invented, pseudo-language. To her, music is a universal language.
Anna’s debut album ‘Tack’, released 2013 was awarded the ‘Best Indie Album’ by Malaysia PWH Music Award in 2015, and nominated for the ‘Best Album’ by AIM Music Award 2016.
During the early stage of her career, Anna’s work were featured in various recording artistes’ albums in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Malaysia. The likes of Andy Lau, Kelly Chen, Rainee Yang, Guo-Jing, Penny Tai, Hocc, Fan Bing-Bing, Zeng Yu-Jia and others had sung Anna’s compositions.
In 2011, Sarawakian singer-songwriter Amir Jahari became an instant sensation via a viral lo-fi YouTube rendition of his own original “Tanpamu”. From then on the then 19 years old amateur moved away from hometown Kuching to the bright lights of Kuala Lumpur. There he was quickly snapped by a recording label, who released his first album “Penghibur Jalanan” in 2013 and launched his career actively gracing both indie and mainstream stages and TV shows.
The anchor of the debut album, a rerecorded and embellished “Tanpa Mu”, was on regular rotation on a number of radio stations. Two years later he won the Hard Rock Rising 2015 Championship and nominated for several other awards, including Best Ethnic Pop Song at Anugerah Industri Muzik 2016 for his song “Ingga”.
Amir released his second album “Siang & Malam” in November last year, the result of a fruitful collaboration with musician and producer AG Coco, and this time he moved toward a more Nusantara Pop trajectory, with influences from the local folk music while keeping it within the catchy, charming pop realms.
When Imran. the drummer of successful pop-punk band One Buck Short, decided to step into the limelight from behind his drum stool, the resulting enticing persona is NARMI, a singer-songwriter of such magnetic but calming artistry which has been capturing the hearts and imagination of many.
His debut single “Make Me Whirl” from the Adventures EP successfully charted the Hitz Top 40 countdown and remained #1 on MET 10 charts for three consecutive weeks. The quirky song tells a story of the many ways of keeping the love in progress with the convenience of connectivity such as Skype and Tumblr. Charming, calming acoustic folk-pop for the “BIg Data” age.
